ANXO Brightwood Review

ANXO Brightwood — Ward 4

711 Kennedy St. NW, Washington, DC 20011

I had first visited Anxo Brightwood before I got started on untappd. I’m guessing it would have been sometime in fall of 2019. I had stumbled upon it after walking around DC on afternoon. The location I visited was the Truxton Circle location, which sadly now no longer is in operation. They had a really nice indoor and outdoor space on a corner. I visited their other location, which is now their only location, in January of 2023.

Their present location definitely feels smaller and is in a less convenient location, if taking public transit. I had gone in the evening, which I would dissuade others from doing. While the location is quaint and cozy on the inside, the outside surrounding area is a little on the rough side, where I saw at least two police vehicles within a one block radius of the location.

There is limited seating in general, so I'd recommend trying to go on off hours to guarantee a spot. When I went in the evening on a Thursday night, I was surprised how busy they were, with hardly any open tables. They serve pizza as well as cider.

One thing I really liked was that they serve cider from other cideries as well as their own. It's nice to see cideries supporting one another. I had tried one of their ciders while I was there as well as one from VA and one from ME. They also have wine, beer and spirits for non-cider drinkers.

It did not appear that they had flights, but they did offer small pours. I had tried their Black Twig Cider. I found it to be fruity, but a little earthy. In general, it seems like their cider is semi-dry and some are almost wine like. Bar staff were friendly and very willing to offer suggestions.

I thought the prices were reasonable for DC. The ciders I've had from them over the years have been a little hit and miss, but the quality is there for sure. I've not seen their products sold anywhere other than their location, but I'd definitely recommend stopping by and checking them out if you are in DC.
