Cider Lab — Fauquier  County 5344 Summerduck Rd, Summerduck, VA 22742          I first found out about Cider Lab from a brewery I went to called Harvest Gap brewery. They feature cider from Cider Lab and Winchester Ciderworks. I remember trying a cider lab cider and thinking that I had to visit their location because it was one of the best ciders I’d ever had.     I’ve only ever been to Cider Lab’s location one time, but I can say without a doubt that it is my favorite cider made in Virginia. Their location is pretty small and easy to miss. They also have pretty limited seating, but at least when I was there, it was not crowded. I did note that a lot of people came in and purchased cider to go while I was there, so it certainly is a popular commodity.      In fact, I had attended a cider fest in Fredericksburg in 2022 and Cider Lab was there. They had the longest line of any cidery by far. Now, they were offering 4 dif...

Wild Hare Hard Cider Review

Wild Hare Hard Cider — Fauquier & Loudoun Counties 63 Main St, Warrenton, VA 20186 1106 A South St SE, Leesburg, VA 20175 17 E Washington St, Middleburg, VA 20117      I've visited the Leesburg location. It was small and quaint with there only being a couple tables inside and out. I visited back in 2018 so it's been a little bit since I've been there. I remember the ciders being kind of bitter and it wasn't my preference. I had a flight of 4 but I can't tell you want they where as it was before I started using untappd. I'll have to go back sometime and give it another shot.

Henway Hard Cider Review

Henway Hard Cider — Loudoun County 18780 Foggy Bottom Rd, Bluemont, VA 20135      I've visited Henway twice now. Once was back in February of 2020, and the other was in September of 2021. In February, it was super dead, with old 3 patrons at the taproom. When I went in September, every table both inside and outside were occupied and it was raining at the time too.      Their ciders are quite good. I've had the Strawberry Hibiscus, The Hatch, Blackberry Ginger, and Tart Cranberry, with my favorite being a tie between The Hatch and the Blackberry Ginger. My average rating for their cider is a 4.5/5. They switch them up throughout the year so your bound to get something different.  They have an orchard store nextdoor and a winery across the street. Henway has a pretty even selection of indoor vs outdoor seating. They do sell food there. I had a Mediterranean dish. On average, their cider is around $10-12, which is a little pricy for the area, but the qual...

Cobbler Mountain Cider Review

Image
Cobbler Mountain Cider — Fauquier County 5909 Long Fall L, Delaplane, VA 20144     I visited Cobbler Mountain twice now. Once in 2021 in the summer and once in the winter of 2022. It is a very secluded, tucked away in the woods, sort of place. Do not expect to have cell reception but do expect to take in the natural environment.     There had a small food truck and live music the first time I was there. The second time, I did not note either being present. You walk up a slight hill from the parking lot to get to the taproom. There are multiple picnic tables and chairs scattered throughout the lawn. It is partly shaded from umbrellas and trees, but if you happen to be in the sun, be warned it can get pretty hot. Additionally, since their cider is so sweet, it does attract bees so if you are allergic, I'd recommend trying to find shelter indoors, though indoor seating is extremely limited.       They have quite a selection of ciders. I would guess b...

Bold Rock Hard Cider Review

Bold Rock Hard Cider — Albemarle & Nelson Counties 1435 Carters Mountain Trail, Charlottesville, VA 22902 1020 Rockfish Valley Hwy, Nellysford, VA 22958      I visited both Virginia Bold Rock locations. I have to say, both have awesome views. The one location is at Carter Mountain Orchard, which is just outside Charlottesville. It has a nice view from the mountain, and has an orchard store where you can purchase fruits, veggies, and merch. They also have food. When I was there, it was pretty cold, as I went in February of 2020. But even then, the view was awesome. If you want to get the full Bold Rock experience, I recommend going to the Rockfish Valley Highway location. They have two locations there to get Bold Rock Hard Cider. The one is the Barrel Barn, which had some amazing live music when I was there. There was this guy singing alternative rock covers of Disney songs and other popular music. It's a very chill laid back vibe. There is also the Nellysford C...

Red Shedman Review

Red Shedman — Frederick County 13601 Glissans Mill Rd, Mt Airy, MD 21771     I visit Red Shedman on a regular basis. It’s brewery, adjacent to a winery; both of which are on the same property. The brewery does make multiple ciders, so I felt it was worth mentioning.     The brewery regularly has 2+ ciders on draft and more in cans at any given time. They tend to be on the sweeter side and are often fairly carbonated. Many of their ciders are small batches so you have to go and get them while you can. As of Jan 2023, I’ve tried the following ciders from them: Pumpkin Pie Hard Cider - 4.25/5  “Cinnister” Hard Cider - 4/5 Pineapple Hard Cider - 4.25/5 Ginger Hard Cider - 4.5/5 Lemon Blueberry Hard Cider - 4.5/5 Thai Basil Ginger Coconut Hard Cider - 4.75/5 Blueberry Cobbler Cider - 3.75/5 Apple Pie and Ice Cream Hard Cider - 4.5/5 Cranberry Hard Cider - 4.75/5 Picnic Watermelon Cider - 5/5 Raspberry Hard Cider - 4.25/5     They have some indoor se...

Doc Waters Cidery Review

Image
Doc Waters Cidery — MoCo 22529 Wildcat Rd, Germantown, MD 20876      I've visited Doc Waters Cidery a couple times now. It's the closest cidery to my home and easy to visit on a weekday afternoon/evening. While they are a cidery; they also have apple picking. I haven't done that before though, as the smallest amount you can pick is a half peck (5-6 lbs), and that is just too much for me to eat before they would go bad.  The Cidery itself is completely outdoors. They have picnic tables, firepits, and some covered seating, but in general, I would not recommend going here in inclement weather. As for their food, they have typical snack items, and generally have a food truck around. You can also get a smores kit and make them over the firepits. The ciders I've had here have been memorable, both good and bad. My favorite thus far has been their prickly pear. It has great flavor and is well balanced. I've also had my absolute worst cider from here. I'm not su...
