Doc Waters Cidery Review

Doc Waters Cidery — MoCo

22529 Wildcat Rd, Germantown, MD 20876

I've visited Doc Waters Cidery a couple times now. It's the closest cidery to my home and easy to visit on a weekday afternoon/evening. While they are a cidery; they also have apple picking. I haven't done that before though, as the smallest amount you can pick is a half peck (5-6 lbs), and that is just too much for me to eat before they would go bad.

The Cidery itself is completely outdoors. They have picnic tables, firepits, and some covered seating, but in general, I would not recommend going here in inclement weather. As for their food, they have typical snack items, and generally have a food truck around. You can also get a smores kit and make them over the firepits.

The ciders I've had here have been memorable, both good and bad. My favorite thus far has been their prickly pear. It has great flavor and is well balanced. I've also had my absolute worst cider from here. I'm not sure which it was supposed to be, and I'm assuming it was a bad batch or something, but it tasted like chicken broth, and my wife agreed. Spot on flavor but not what I look for in a cider.

Otherwise, their ciders are solid. I think they are a little less carbonated than some ciders, but they taste pretty good. On average I've given them about a 4/5 rating on untappd. I tend to prefer their specialty ciders, which are their cider base with some fruit flavoring (ex, strawberry, blackberry, prickly pear). They generally have 1-3 of these at any given time. On average, I think their ciders are between $8-10.

It's super quiet as it's out in the woods, with a large grassy space. Lots of families with kids come as they have regular cider, and an open space for running around and playing catch. Dogs are also welcome there.
